Winter Guide to Planning Your Landscape Project

5 Key Reasons To Plan Ahead

Are you thinking about starting a landscape or design-build project this summer? Believe it or not, January and February are excellent months to get started on your outdoor space. You can take advantage of the "slower" winter months to get ahead of your project by planning, designing, ordering materials, securing permits, and more.

The truth is most landscape companies are busy in the winter working on internal company updates, reviewing processes, doing snow removal, and planning for next season. Most people are busy with the holidays and they're not even thinking about summer projects yet. Come that first spring day in March, everyone takes action and calls up their landscape company or a design-build company.

Here’s why you should start now, during the winter, rather than waiting later:

  1. Get the most out of your summer.

Booking in the winter gets you on our schedule for an early Spring build. This allows you and your family to enjoy your finished outdoor kitchen or new landscape design all summer. An early start also gives your new plants more time to grow and flourish in their new environment.

2. Locked-in Rates and Lower pricing.

We can get your materials ordered and locked in before rates increase or supply availability changes. Also, materials can be cheaper this time of year.

3. More Time to Design and Review.

Winter planning gives you extra time to explore design possibilities and research all aspects of your project. This includes everything from potential options, patio designs, phased development, and a wonderful variety of materials. Our design consultation team has less demand before the normal season rush. They will have more time to devote to you and your project, especially if it's a larger one. We're here to guide you every step of the way to create the outdoor area you've always wanted.

4. Permits and Permissions.

Landscape projects often require city or town permits and some installations require coordination with utility companies. Obtaining these permissions as early as possible prevents any unforeseen delays.

5. Start in the Winter.

Depending on the weather, some hardscape and landscape projects can be started. As long as the ground isn’t frozen, we can begin certain aspects of a project. Our installation crews can dig out your pool or patio project and leave it for Spring. They can also work on installing drainage systems. This gives us a great head start when we return!
